Adesh Kumar Gupta was appointed as the new chief of the Delhi unit of the party, replacing Manoj Tiwari who is an actor-turned Politician. Adesh Kumar Gupta also thanked Prime Minister for giving him the golden opportunity. He is given charge of the North Corporationfrom West Patel Nagar ward.

Manoj Tiwari was said to be on borrowed time since the party’s disastrous performance in the Delhi assembly elections in February. Tiwari earlier stated that he would resign immediately after the Delhi defeat but was asked to continue until an alternative was found. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) called it a routine move and also announced changes in other states. The newly appointed chief is a low profile Politian and an old hand of the party in the capital. Many interpret his appointment as a sign that the BJP is once again looking for its core support group in the capital especially from the Vaishya community as he belongs from this community.

The newly elected MLA hopes to reach out to the people of Delhi and create a more embracing organization and develop a huge voter base. Manoj Tiwari was seen to have been unable to efficiently counter the Arvind Kejriwal- led Aam Aadmi Party(AAP). Tiwari failed to deliver on his promise of decimating AAP after the BJP won all seven parliamentary seats in the national assembly election just nine months before the Delhi polls. He joined BJP in 2013 after a brief stint in the Samajwadi Party and quickly rose up the ranks. He contested the 2014 election from Delhi and won. There were much resentment when he was chosen as the Chief of Delhi in 2016. This appointment surprised many as organizational posts are usually given to hardcore followers of the party.

Adesh Kumar Gupta is the member of the standing committee of the North Corporation from West Patel Nagar ward. Gupta who will take charge as BJP chief with immediate effect, is a former mayor of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation. He was a crucial member of BJP’s Yuva Morcha. He was an active member of Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh(RSS). His selection is said to be made keeping in mind the forthcoming corporation election in mind. BJP rules all the three corporations of Delhi- East West and North. The next MCD elections will be held in 2022.

Adesh Kumar Gupta has also played an important role in BJP’s Yuva Morcha and Akhil Bharathiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). Even though he was a member of the party since a long time, he contested for elections for the first time in 2017, for the post of mayor of North Delhi Municipal Corporation in 2018. His term as mayor of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation was completed last year. He was born in 1969 in Kanauj, Uttar Pradesh. He completed his studies from UP itself. He was in Chhatrapati Shahu Ji University, Kanpur. He was a B.sc. student there. It was during his college days, that he joined hands with the ABVP and became district chief. It was after this, that he joined BJP’s Yuva Morcha and became one of its MLAs. In 1995 he moved to Delhi and started working for BJP. He was also a home tutor and he was in charge of Delhi’s Karol Bagh.

There are more challenges for the newly elected president, as he has to make progress for the party amidst the Covid-19 situation, as well as, he has to make a better outcome. There are some internal factions among Manoj Tiwari, Rajya Sabha MP Vijal Goel and other MPs. Tiwari was appointed as the BJP president in 2016. He was said to be on borrowed time since the party’s disastrous performance in Delhi elections.

Adesh Kumar Gupta is given this opportunity to amend the mistakes made by the former chief and the party expects him to work with all his heart and make the party bloom in the upcoming 2022 municipality elections and create a larger vote base in the national capital
